Over the past six months we have been working with several voluntary groups to help develop the knowledge of volunteers that work with people living with dementia.

The project started just before Christmas with the launch of a new course designed for adults with a learning disability, which you can read about it below on behalf of VAM (Voluntary Action Maidstone).

Since then we have formed a working partnership with the ‘Skillnet Group’ to develop and accommodate free training for all volunteers and staff members within the organization. These courses will be carried out throughout the year across the Sittingbourne, Canterbury and Dover Sites.

The first two hours are free for all volunteers and staff with the added option of attending the full day course for the small sum of £25 per person.

Since the success of our first session at The Pulse Café (see below), Dementia Inspired is also proud to be working with the ‘Brighter Futures’ in Maidstone, helping their volunteers to develop their knowledge of dementia with an advanced 2 day course.

This year, we will also be delivering training to the volunteers of the Kent Wild Trust who will be taking their knowledge and skills into various care settings to assist those living with dementia to engage with the benefits of gardening.

To arrange some community training for the volunteers in your organization please feel free to contact Ash on 07903 243273 or email at

Dementia Inspired had the great pleasure just before Christmas of launching a brand new ‘Dementia Awareness Course’ for a very special audience. Working with Rachel Coppins from VAM (Voluntary Action Maidstone) we were able to devise a course designed for the volunteers of the Gateway in Maidstone, most of whom have a learning disability, to learn about dementia and how best to work with people living with the condition. The course offers a hands-on and positive approach to dementia awareness. Rachel Coppins said, ‘All the guys were very impressed, a very visual and passionate course, highly recommended!’

Congratulations to all the Volunteers at the Maidstone who attended the course and if you are interested in discussing a course for your workplace feel free to give Ash a call on 07903 243273 or email at
